Vanlife - How To Work While Travelling

Like a lot of Vanlifers I work whilst travelling. Working from the road means I can afford to travel longer and I don’t need to be tied to an office. Sometimes my workload can be a few simple emails in the morning, other times I will hide in the van for days at a time working on a project. Either way I like to be comfortable and efficient.

Here’s a few pieces of gear I use to make my van the perfect office.

While space in the van can often be tight, my screen space never is. I keep an espresso Display on board. The display is super thin, 5.5mm to be precise and offers 1920 x 1080 resolution. It powers directly from my laptop so it’s a total plug and play experience. I like having two monitors for editing videos and it’s great if I need to video meet with clients while referring to documents. The espresso Display is touch screen which allows me to navigate documents directly while participating in the meeting on my laptop. The espresso Display mounts magnetically to the fold up stand and can be used left or right of your main device, and can be used in both horizontal or vertical orientation.

You can also connect the espresso Display to your smart phone, but I find myself using it mostly connected to my laptop when I have a full work day.

Espresso Screen, thinner than the laptop!

I work best when things are tidy. I have a lot of camera gear with me and it seems they all require different cables for charging (of course) I use a Grid-It to keep them all neat and easy to find!

Lastly, like any digital adventurer I use my phone a lot for work. If I am away from the van, checking out a new town I throw my Mophie external battery in my bag and that way I can stay connected and take calls when needed.

Happy travels!
